Taberna de Antonio Sánchez
lavapiesCatégorie: mid-range
Reputedly the oldest taberna in Madrid, pouring since 1830 — bullfighting memorabilia on every wall, a zinc-topped bar, and traditional Castilian dishes served exactly as unfussily as the décor suggests.
The interior is effectively untouched since the 19th century and is worth a slow look even before ordering — original tiling, a carved wooden bar, and decades of bullfighting posters. It sits on the Lavapiés–La Latina border, an easy stop when moving between the two neighbourhoods. Classic Castilian dishes like rabo de toro (oxtail stew) are the kitchen's strength.
